Died: Dec. 22, 1947 - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA

A Self-educated man, Nicholson began working for the Indianapolis Sentinel in 1884. The following year, he joined the staff of the Indianapolis News where he worked as a journalist until 1897. In 1891, he published his first book, Short Flights, and continued to publish both prose and poetry until 1928 when he entered the political arena in Indiana. In 1906, his The House of a Thousand Candles made the best-seller list and he would have two more best-sellers in The Port of Missing Men (1907) and A Hoosier Chronicle (1912). He became a city councilman in Indianapolis in 1928 and during the 1930's served as a diplomatic envoy to Nicaragua, Paraguay and Venezuela. His other works include Poems (1906), Otherwise Phyllis (1913), Proof of the Pudding (1916), Madness of May (1917), Reversible Santa Claus (1917), Lady Larkspur (1918), Best Laid Schemes (1922), Honor Bright (1923), Cavalier of Tennessee (1928) and Old Familiar Faces.
