The sister of Charles Lamb, Mary was mentally unstable and, in 1796, murdered her mother in a fit of insanity. She was placed under the charge of her brother, but continued to be subject to periodic seizures. She was devoted to her brother, and he to her. They collaborated in the publication of Tales From Shakespeare in 1807, which retold the plays for children, The Adventures of Ulysses (1808), Poetry for Children (1808), and Mrs. Leicester's School in 1809. She survived her brother by 13 years. |
