Educated at London University, Lucas was an essayist and assistant editor of Punch magazine. Among his better known works are The Life of Charles Lamb (1905), The Open Road (1899), The Friendly Town (1905), The Slow Coach (1908), Over Bemerton's (1908) and Listener's Lure (1911).
