Tasso studied law and philosophy in Padua and Bologna from 1560 to 1565. While in Padua, he produced his first epic poem, Rinaldo (1562). He went to Ferrera and wrote a drama, Aminta, in 1573. In 1574, he finished his epic Jerusalem Delivered, which wasn't published until 1581. Thought to be mad, he was confined from 1579 to 1586 in Ferrera. On his release, he wrote a tragedy, Torrismondo and a number of religious poems. In 1593, he completed a revised version of Jerusalem Delivered, entitled Jerusalem Conquered. |
