The mother of Anthony Trollope, she was forced to write to support her family. Her best known novel is The Widow Barnaby (1838) which was reasonably successful. She also wrote The Vicar of Wrexhill (1837) and The Domestic Manners of the Americans (1832), the latter of which was extremely controversial at the time.
