After leaving school, Bennett worked in his father's law office as a clerk until, in 1899, he moved to London. Most of his best work reflects on his roots in Staffordshire. He moved to Paris in 1902, married in 1907 and published his masterpiece, Old Wives' Tales, in 1908. Bennett is credited with more than 80 books and a huge amount of journalism, and, during the 1920's was considered among the leaders of English literature. |
