Benson was the son of the Archbishop of Canterbury, E.W. Benson. His brother, Robert Hugh Benson became a minister and was an author in his own right. Benson was the author of many biographies, reminiscences and fictional novels, probably the most well-known being the Mapp & Lucia sextet. Among his many other works are Dodo (1893), Michael (1916), As We Were (1930) and his autobiography, Final Edition (1940). |
