Educated in Moscow and Berlin, Rebikoff lived and worked in various parts of Russia as well as Berlin and Vienna. He wrote many lovely piano pieces, somewhat in the style of Tchaikovsky. He is credited with being the first composer to use the whole-tone scale, later adopted by many including Debussy. In addition to his piano works, Rebikoff produced many orchestral and stage works, such as Yolka (The Christmas Tree), and introduced a type of musical pantomime known as "melo-mimic". |
