Educated at the Sheffield Scientific School at Yale University, Union Theological Seminary and Princeton Theological Seminary, Eddy became closely associated with the YMCA, eventually becoming the YMCA Secretary for Asia in 1911. At various times during his career he worked for the Student Volunteer Movement for Foreign Missions and the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. Eddy was a well-known lecturer on the evangelical circuit and travelled widely,including to the front lines in wartime. His best-known general work, With Our Soldiers in France, was published in 1917 and outlines his experience there during World War I. His other works include India Awakening (1911), Everybody's World (1920), The Abolition of War (1924), Makers of Freedom (1926), Creative Pioneers (1937), The Kingdom of God and the American Dream (1941), Man Discovers God (1942), God in History (1947), You Will Survive After Death (1950) and his autobiographical work, Eighty Adventurous Years (1955). |
