Initially trained as an entymologist, Bergsoe was forced to abandon his career after developing eye problems. He turned to literature and produced some excellent and very popular romances, beginning with Fra Piazzo del Popolo in 1866. In 1869, he published Fra den gamle Fabrik (From the Old Factory) which was immensely popular in his home country. His other main works include Rome Under Pius IX (1877), Fra Mark og Skov (From Field and Forest) (1881) - a popular work on natural history, Pillone (1883), Bruden fra Rorvig (The Bride from Rorvig) (1884), Fra Sollyse Strand (From Sunlight Beach) (1891) and Nemesis (1911). |
