De Troyes was the court poet in the 12th century court of Marie de Champagne. He is credited with the first literary treatment of the Arthurian legend and produced Four Arthurian Romances some time between 1170 and 1185. Other works credited to him include Guillaume d'Angleterre and some imitations of Ovid.
