Sextus is said to have lived in Athens and Alexandria and is known to have studied medicine under Herotodus, a doctor in Rome. As a physician, his name implies that he was of the empirical school, although he argued for the methodical. As a Sceptic, his claim to fame is that he formulated the doctrines of the older Sceptics and left five known works including Outline of Pyrronhism, Against the Logicians, Against the Physicists, Against the Ethicists and Against the Professors. None of his medical works have survived. |
