Educated in law at Paris and Rouen, Malot turned to literature and began working as a drama critic for Lloyd Francais. In 1859, he published his first novel Les Amants, the first part of his trilogy, Victimes d'Amour. For a time, he worked for L'Opinion Nationale as a literary critic. His best-known work, Sans Famille (Nobody's Boy), appeared in 1878 and was extremely popular and helped to establish Malot as a writer of children's literature. His other works include Les Epoux (1865), Les Enfants (1869), Un Bonne affaire (1870), Paulette (1883), Sang Bleu (1885), Baccara (1886), Mondaine (1887), Complices (1892), Conscience (1893) and Pages choisies (1898). |
