Thought to be an illegitimate child and her date of birth is dubious. Baynton married Hay Frater in 1880 and later, in 1890, Dr. Thomas Baynton. She published a number of short stories on Australian life during the 1890's in the Bulletin. These were later collected into Bush Studies in 1902. In 1907, she published the novel Human Toll, which was reasonably popular. She spent the war years of 1914 to 1918 in England. In 1921, she married Baron Headley, her third husband. Her other works include Cobbers, which was basically a reprint of Bush Studies with some additional stories. |
