She was married to Benjamin F. Abbott and the couple lived in Peachtree Street in Atlanta for many years. Although she had never published anything, her one and only novel, Leah Mordecai, was published in 1875 when Belle was 33. It is a coming of age story set in Charleston, South Carolina, of a young Jewish girl, and was very successful. No other works by Abbott are known to exist.
